The Fun Run teaches leadership and fitness to our students who are raising pledges for our school. They combine the power of a strong, kid-centered curriculum with students learning through action. Volunteers collect forms, purchases, or provide support the day of fundraising event. Time commitment is 2 hours.

Book Fair is held during Open House in the Fall. Purchases earn PTA points used to purchase new books and prizes used in the classrooms and for the Read-A-Thon. Help set up and run the Book Fair, shifts are 2 hours each.

One of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and works in conjunction with the monthly Paws Reading. This program is 100% a creation of the Shadow Lake PTA. All of the materials, prizes and logistics are done by PTA volunteers. That means all of the money goes to our school!

Orders are taken for half and full flats of flower, herb, veggie plant starts. Plants arrive in all their beautiful glory, and you pick them up at the school. Volunteers collect forms, purchases, or provide support the day of fundraising event. Time commitment is 2 hours.

Take the worry out of your child's school birthday celebration and order popcorn certificates for his/her classmates. The teacher will pass out certificates to your child's class by the week of his/her birthday. The cost is $7, all checks should be made out to SLES PTA.

NOTE- All birthday forms must be turned in by September 30th regardless of when the birthday falls in the year.

On field day, we want to emphasize and encourage TEAM WORK! We need volunteers to supervise and explain stations, keep track of points, and accompany groups of students (about 13-15) to each station.

PTA pops popcorn twice a month on Fridays during first recess from 9am - Noon. 25 cents per bag or 10 cents per half bag. Volunteer to pop, and see just how much the students love it!

STAY ACTIVE AND EARN REWARDS!

Weather permitting, students are invited to move around the outdoor track during lunch recess every Wednesday.
As participants accumulate miles, they earn reward tokens and track their progress as an individual and as a class.

If your child would like to participate in this free program they must submit a permission slip to their teacher at the beginning of each school year.

Want to volunteer to cheer kids on and keep track of their laps?! Be sure to sign-up as a volunteer!

We celebrate and thank our teachers and staff for all the hard work they do with special luncheons held throughout the year, and during Teacher Appreciation Week in May. Each potluck luncheon is a different theme, whether it's comfort food, the ultimate salad bar or soups and stews. Menus will be available ahead of time so that families can sign up to bring in a food item. Additional ways you can help; planning, setup or clean up, donate supplies for our small token appreciation gifts, write your teacher/staff a Thank You note. Time required is 1 hour a month.

We also can use all volunteer pictures you have taken that you'd be willing to share and possibly get into the yearbook. Please send your pictures, AND give a description of what the photo is from and the name(s) of who is pictured. Thank you for your participation! We really appreciate your help.

PAWS Reading Program

The PAWS Reading program is designed to encourage students to read and to celebrate their reading accomplishments. Students track their reading for each month and work toward earning reading certificates and prizes. Your log is due in class on the 1st school day of the following month.

Volunteers spend a couple hours at the start of each month tallying student's reading log pages and organizing prizes.

Backpack Buddies of Maple Valley is a program designed to provide nutrition supplementation over the weekend. Participating students will receive an unmarked bag of nutritious food that may include pasta, fruit juice, milk, oatmeal, snack crackers, granola bars, and fresh fruit. Bags will be picked up by students on Fridays (or the last day of the week) from the counseling office. The names of all recipients will only be known to the counselor, school staff assisting with distribution, and the student's teacher.

Space is limited, therefore students will be enrolled on a first come, first serve basis until all spaces are filled.

HELP FEED OUR LOCAL FAMILIES IN NEED! Food Drives benefit the Maple Valley Food Bank.
Please bring non-perishable food items to school during the food drive.

The Shadow Lake Elementary PTA Science Fair is held each year in the spring. It is part of the fifth grade curriculum, but all students are invited to participate by entering a science project. Parent volunteers help interview fifth grade students in the classroom on the day of the Science Fair and interview younger children that evening.

SLES holds an annual all school BBQ and Hawaiian Spirit Day at the end of the year. Family and friends are are invited to attend and eat lunch at school with their student at their regularly scheduled lunch times.

Everyone looks forward to ending the year with our Carnival. This requires a lot of help by many hands so the more the merrier! Assist with setting up, running a booth or cleaning up at our biggest school event of the year. Shifts are 2 hours each and the program is in late spring.

We have two themed dances a year; Fall and Spring. We bring in a DJ, a dance group to showcase their talents, food truck, photographer and lots of goodies to enhance your dancing fun! Our students love these dances but they require many people to jump in to help make them great events. Sell concessions, collect tickets, set up or clean up. Shifts are 2 hours each.

WatchDOGS (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father/grandfather involvement, educational initiative of the National Center For Fathering. There are two primary goals of the WatchDOGS program.

1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
